Memorial Biography

Betty Lois Sigmon Deal peacefully passed away August 8 at Wake Hospital. Betty was born in Newton, NC and moved to Raleigh in 1952. Betty was a long-time member of St. Phillip Lutheran Church in Raleigh. She was first and foremost a devoted mother to Jimmie and Debbie, and later grandmother to Scottie and Jamie. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. Betty traveled extensively during her lifetime with her husband Jim and various family and friends throughout the US, as well as internationally. Betty was also a dedicated wolfpack fan and volunteer for many years. Along with her husband Jim, she attended many if not most home ball games and many away games, including the 1983 National Championship. She was also a multitalented artist and enjoyed sharing her works with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Luther R Sigmon and Edna Parlier Sigmon of Newton, three brothers, Bob, Fred and Richard Sigmon of Newton, and one sister, June Sigmon Setzer of Claremont, and niece Lori Fleming of Henderson. Betty is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, James C Deal of Garner. Also surviving are her son James, Jr. and wife Kathy of Garner, daughter Debra Deal Simerly and husband Scott of Fuquay-Varina, grandson Scott, Jr of Los Angeles and granddaughter Jamie Simerly Wylie and husband Dave of Durham. She is also survived by her sister Gail Marlow and husband Larry and many nieces and nephews. A private service will be held at St. Phillip Lutheran Church in Raleigh. Memorials may be made to St. Phillip Lutheran Church Columbarium Fund or the N.C. State Wolfpack Clubs Jim and Betty Deal Ultimate Fan Scholarship Endowment Fund.
